Appreciating The Poetry in Country Music Lyrics

If you’re a country music fan, you realize that their is a poetry in country music song lyrics.

A favorite song of mine deals with someone whose life is like a pilgrim; a long and difficult journey – the difference being that the person in the song is not on a journey of redemption, but self destruction.

Now, pop music would never get that deep, would it? Sock hops and bobby sox just do not cut it when it comes to dealing with life issues such as making poor choices and wrestling with addiction.
