An OB-GYN’s Impromptu Lecture on Genital Warts

I’m an obstetrician-gynecologist. It frustrates me to see so many women come in for treatment for genital warts every so often. I wish women out there should take care of themselves and go out of their way to learn about genital warts. There are so many misconceptions out there. For instance, I had one patient who thought that only women can contact genital warts. Her consultation and treatment became an instant classroom lecture. I told her that genital warts are prevalent around the globe. It can be contacted by anyone who is sexually active regardless of gender and age. I saw how surprised she was with the information that I was giving her, but at least she left my clinic “wiser”.
