My brother called me last night. He has not been feeling like himself lately, and he called me for some advice. I am a psychology major. He asked me how to tell the difference between many personality disorders and mental conditions. He had been depressed lately, but he wasn’t sure if he was suffering from depression or bipolar disorder. He said he wasn’t quite sure whether his mood swings could be considered extreme or not. I told him to take a bipolar test. Then, I told him to follow up with a healthcare professional for advice. I cannot diagnose him at this point. I am a student. I can give him my opinion, but I cannot diagnose him or treat him for a condition or disorder. Only a licensed healthcare professional can do that.
