Meeting strangers does not have to be an occasion for anxiety

January 26th, 2008 by admin

We are all familiar with the example of a young child who will not come out and greet a stranger - who hides behind mom or dad. In a child we do not link this behavior to depression and anxiety - is simply a normal part of child development. In adults, however, anxiety over meeting strangers is clearly not normal or acceptable. As a matter of fact, anxiety over meeting strangers can actually interfere with the performance of one’s job, or in the development of normal social relationships - this is why, if you are an adult and are struggling with this type of anxiety, you should seek out a good counselor immediately.
