How Electricity Is Produced

Electricity is what makes the world go around, at least in the twenty first century. It is the lifeblood of the entire digital revolution that relates to every small aspect of our daily lifestyle and without it we are as helpless as a newborn in the absence of his mother.  And this impuissance is only going to aggravate further with every burst in population levels. More people means greater energy demands that presses on the frontiers of the already scanty fossil fuel resources. There is going to be an unprecedented increase in the demand for Uranium and Water in the wake of the approaching decades. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, the entire human kind had been devising methods to meet this energy shortage. And in this quest of theirs they formulated the turbines. These enormous wheels rotate incessantly to furnish the astronomical quantity of electricity we need. So far so good! The problem arises from the fact that, currently these turbines depend on the depletion of fossil fuels for their own energy requirements.Fossil fuel of the likes of coal and petroleum are baked in massive furnaces to heat up whooping gallons of Water. This exercise leads to the production of steam at highly elevated temperatures, which in turn spins the turbines around.  The incineration of fossil fuels is one of the most common ways in which green house gases like carbon dioxide enters our atmosphere. And the worrying fact is that the intensity of such influx is augmenting at a dizzying rate. Forest cover, which is essential in maintaining the critical degree of oxygen in air, is being eroded with impunity. What most of us fail to realize is that steam can efficiently be substituted with water when it comes to swirling the turbine wheels.Water is not only available in abundance, it is also pollution free. The river water is amassed in the dams and redirected into turning the turbines instead of steam; the energy produced as a result is a hundred percent clean energy. Promising news is that about 90% of global electricity is now being derived in this way.    And talking of Water how can we forget the other w-word, The Wind. Even air currents can be transformed into useful variations of electrical current to run hosts of modern gadgets and gizmos. No doubt why Wind turbines are the order of the day! Wind energy is easy to produce, is very economical and therefore is immensely popular. Colliding Uranium with neutron particles rips the former’s kernel thus releasing massive bursts of energy.  The procedure is labeled as nuclear fission. Each fragmentation of the Uranium nucleus is accompanied by the ejection of numerous other Uranium Neutrons, and then these particles get bombarded by their predecessors with the whole process repeating itself time and again. This is a recurring phenomenon that unleashes enough heat throughout its course to vaporize massive amounts of water.
