Cracked Heels

February 2nd, 2010 by admin

Cracks in the skin around the heel are more common in those who are overweight, have dry and callused skin around and wear open heel shoes. As the dry and callused skin cracks, it pulls on the good skin beneath it and tries to tear it. If it succeeds in doing this it may bleed and is very painful. An infection can get into the crack. The best way to treat cracked heels is to have the dry and callused removed on regular basis by a skilled podiatrists. An emollient or cream is also helpful to keep the skin soft and closed in shoes should also be used.
