Time to Relax

July 30th, 2008 by admin

My wife has been working hard on a project for work for the last 3 weeks. She’s been stressed out, losing sleep and basically pulling her hair out to get everything done. Last night was her last day on the project, and I wanted to plan something special for her when she got home. I picked up a wine gift basket at our local gourmet grocery store. It had a nice bottle of her favorite wine, some crackers and spread, and various other treats.I got home just a bit before I knew she’d be back, and put the basket out on the garden patio. I lit a fire in our outdoor fireplace, and set up a table with two chairs. Most importantly I slipped the kids $20 to go see a movie.  She got home looking tired, her eyes looked guarded and even angry. When she saw the basket, all of that melted away. For the next 20 minutes she vented about work over a glass of wine. Then she was finished, she started talking about the wine basket, and how thoughtful it was. I could see that she was relaxed, and I felt good knowing that I had helped ease some of that burden off her shoulders. It was a great night.
