Understanding the Hebrew meaning of word begins with understanding the Hebrew alphabet, from Aleph to Tav. The third letter of the Hebrew alphabet is gimel. Originally, gimel looked like the word camel. Teaching of the letter gimel is that it symbolizes a rich man who is trying to run after a poor man to help him. Gimel is also derived from the word gemul which can also mean the giving of punishment as well as a reward. Both have the common goal of rectifying a person’s soul to receive the light of God. Gimel is pronounced like the g sound in guard.
