Raising a My Turtle

December 18th, 2009 by admin

An important aspect of raising a turtle, or any pet for that matter, is feeding the animal and knowing its dietary needs and requirements. Some animals are carnivores, others herbivores and some are omnivorous, eating a healthy mix of both. This is true in turtles as well. Good turtle care requires this knowledge so the reptile has a healthy appetite, and the proper nutrition in order to extend its life expectancy. Most turtles eat a mix of plants and small bugs. These can usually be purchased at the local pet store or from the source from which your turtle originally came. Some turtles can eat prepackaged food that comes in containers similar to fish food. They can be flakes or pellets that provide the right amount of nutrients and vitamins your turtle needs to growth and health. In addition, vitamins are also available for many pets, similar to humans, that may be necessary for your turtle. The best way to find out what kind of diet your turtle should have is to check with your veterinarian or pet shop.
